I’m Avalee — a coastal landscape painter based in southwest England, drawn to wild skies and crashing waves. Working primarily in oils on board, I specialise in atmospheric cloudscapes that explore the ever-changing relationship between land, sea, and sky — and the profound impact time in nature can have on our mental wellbeing.
For me, landscape painting is less about depicting a place and more about evoking a feeling. There’s a quiet magic in standing alone on an empty beach in so-called bad weather — the solitude, the rawness, the space to breathe. These moments of stillness and awe lie at the heart of my work. Each brushstroke seeks to capture the emotion of fleeting moments: when the horizon blurs into mist, a storm transforms the light, rain sweeps in, or the tide rushes out. I challenge the notion that grey days are dull or that rain should be avoided. The sky — stormy, brooding, or serene — is the expressive force behind my paintings, a reminder that beauty is often found in change, discomfort, and unpredictability.
Beyond the canvas, I am passionate about fostering a more inclusive and sustainable art world. As a self-taught artist and advocate for social equality, I believe creativity should never be limited by background, education, or tradition. You don’t need to fit a mould to create meaningful art.
Sustainability is central to my practice. I use eco-conscious materials whenever possible and support environmental conservation through my work. My paintings celebrate the natural world and serve as a call to protect it.
When I’m not in the studio, you’ll find me hiking alone through the wild landscapes of the UK, letting the elements inspire my next piece. Please feel free to get in touch to learn more about my work, commissions, or upcoming exhibitions.
